Week three

Lecture

Week three's lecture is on the topic, presentation strategies. Presentation strategies are important when approaching a university assignment, especial an oral assessment as both verbal and visual elements of a presentation allow for a greater understanding of the topic presented. An audience will remember 10% of what they see, 25% of what they see and hear, 40% of what they see, hear and write down and 60% of what they experience interactively. This shows that it pays to include information which is not just in the form of words. An oral presentation should be set up like you would an essay.

Workshop
Week threes workshop task is to produce a power point presentation. The presentation is on your self and should be about be about six slides. The presentation will need a cover page, introductory page, a minimum of three body slides and a summery page. The information included can be on your hobbies, education, family life or anything you think is interesting about yourself. You will also need to include graphics and one animation effect.

Readings

The reading "Things to Think About", by David A. Patterson, is a useful document in helping to prepare for speeches. It covers the best ways to approach different speeches such as academic interview speeches and conference talks. There is also a list of commandments which should not be presented in a speech. You should have correct spelling and grammar in slide shows, its essential to make eye contact and practice your speech. These are some simple but very useful tips when it comes time to present an oral presentation.
