Week Two

Lecture

This week's lecture focused on what programs would mainly be used in the course and throughout university. These included Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook Express and Adobe Acrobat Reader. The lecture described the common tasks which are usually associated with each program and ways to enhance your using of these programs. For example when using Microsoft PowerPoint use graphics to support your presentation but don’t let them rule it, and when viewing PDF's on Adobe Acrobat Reading, save them to your PC for offline viewing. This lecture showed what is to be expected when using these programs and how to use them at a university level. It also insisted that if you haven’t used these programs before to get familiar with them.

Workshop

Week two has included two different activities, one using Microsoft Word and the other using Microsoft excel. To do this task quickly print off the workshop worksheets before the lesson so instructions can be followed easier. The Microsoft Word activity is relatively simple as you copy and paste a document found in the UCP0004 folder of MyECU sites. From then on you just follow the instructions on the document being copied and pasted. If you need more information or instructions as to how to do the tasked being asked, refer to the workshop worksheet "Using Microsoft Word For APA Tasks. The second activity needs to be completed in Microsoft Excel. You simply need to make up a table which needs to be the same as the one shown on your print outs. The table requires you to fill in how many hours each day you eat, sleep, exercise, attend university, socilise and study. Using formulas found in Excel you then need to create two different charts showing the different activities and how many hours a day you do them.

Readings

Week two's reading is "Using Microsoft Word For Word APA Tasks". This twelve page document has just about all the information needed to complete different activities for university on Microsoft Word. The document details elements which are very basic, such as what is the difference between Backspace and delete and changing the typeface to adding headers and footers and using document comments. This document would be beneficial to people new and experience with Mircrosoft Word as it caters for creating official documents and university reports to designing cover pages.
